Loro Piana, the LVMH-owned luxury maison, is reinforcing its manufacturing presence in Tuscany with the acquisition of a purpose-built leather goods facility in Barberino-Tavarnelle, in the Florentine Chianti.
The 18,000 sqm site, completed in 2021, comprises three dedicated buildings for offices, workshops and logistics. It was previously used by fashion brand Furla before changing ownership.
Once operational, the plant will bring together bag manufacturing currently carried out in Tavarnuzze-Impruneta, near Florence, together with a warehouse presently based in Emilia-Romagna. Inauguration is expected in the first half of 2027.
In its official statement, Loro Piana framed the investment as “a way to bring manufacturing closer to home while drawing on the skills of Tuscany’s leather district.”
The move follows Richemont’s recent expansion in Scandicci, marking a further sign of confidence in Tuscany’s leather goods district, which has faced a challenging market environment since late 2023.
