Marchesini Group has strengthened its presence in Tuscany with the opening of a new facility in Barberino di Mugello, located in the industrial area of La Lora. The site is dedicated to Neri, the brand within the Group that focuses on secondary packaging and advanced labelling technologies. The project represents a strategic investment of approximately 12 million euros.
The newly built structure adds 4,300 square meters to the existing production hub and includes a 2,500-square-meter workshop and spacious office areas, complete with employee services such as a restaurant area. Powered by an integrated electrical and photovoltaic system, the building reflects the Group’s ongoing commitment to energy efficiency and sustainable industrial development.
A Local Investment with Broader Industrial Value
The opening ceremony brought together institutional representatives and industry leaders, emphasizing the crucial role of manufacturing for local economic growth. Maurizio Marchesini, President of Marchesini Group and Vice President of Confindustria, highlighted how innovation stems from strong connections between companies, communities, universities, and research centers. According to Marchesini, these networks form the foundation of Italy’s competitive industrial landscape.
The Ministry of Labour also conveyed its support, stressing how new production investments contribute to job creation and reinforce national industrial capacity without resorting to delocalization.
For the municipality of Barberino, the expansion not only opens up new employment opportunities but also strengthens the broader development strategy for the Mugello territory, an area working to attract people, skills, and long-term economic resources.
Technology, Skills and the Factory of the Future
The new site responds to the need to increase Neri’s production capacity, which currently manufactures around 160 machines per year for the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries. Market demand is growing for advanced AI-driven vision and control systems, particularly in the labelling phase of packaging processes. CEO Valerio Soli explained that the expanded space will enable the Group to better address these technological challenges and reorganize workflows.
The company also plans to grow its workforce: the Barberino facility currently employs 200 people, with a projected 20% increase in the coming years. Specialized technical profiles, especially engineers and skilled technicians, remain a priority, reinforcing the strong collaboration between Marchesini Group and academic institutions.
A Celebration Blending Heritage and Innovation
Around one thousand guests attended the inauguration, which featured musical performances and digital installations. Through the use of AI, historical figures such as Dante Alighieri, Leonardo da Vinci and Caterina de’ Medici appeared on the facility’s screens to symbolize the connection between Italian heritage and technological progress.
This theme was also echoed in a mural created by the artists of Kogitans, depicting Dante, Leonardo, Galileo Galilei and a tribute to Nobel laureate Rita Levi Montalcini, a visual representation of creativity as a driving force behind industrial innovation.
