A new 12,000-square-meter customs warehouse has been launched within the Jsw Steel Italy facility in Piombino, managed by Piombino Logistics. This initiative aims to enhance logistics efficiency and strengthen the competitiveness of local steel companies, providing an innovative solution for managing steel flows in both domestic and international markets.

One of the key benefits of this facility is the special tax regime that allows businesses to defer the payment of customs duties and VAT until the goods are officially placed on the market. Eligible steel products include blooms, coils, bars, and hot-rolled sheets. Additionally, exports outside the European Union can benefit from complete exemption from customs duties.

The creation of this warehouse represents a strategic step in revitalizing Piombino’s steel sector, introducing a service that was previously unavailable at the city’s port. According to Piombino Logistics, this initiative—combined with the recently established Simplified Logistics Zone (ZLS)—will help attract new investments, improve supply chain efficiency, and generate economic growth for the region.

For Marco Carrai, President of Piombino Logistics, the new customs warehouse reinforces Jsw’s commitment to strengthening its presence in Piombino and supporting the expansion of the steel industry. The facility, which will operate with dedicated shifts and specialized personnel, is set to simplify raw material management for Jsw while also offering local companies a valuable opportunity to enhance their global competitiveness.
