Tuscany reaffirms its position as a hub of academic excellence: the universities of Pisa, Florence and Siena have all secured spots in the top tier of the Censis 2025/2026 national university rankings, which evaluate Italian institutions based on infrastructure, student services, scholarships, internationalization, communication and graduate employability.

Pisa and Florence Lead Among Italy’s Major Universities

Among Italy’s largest state universities (with over 40,000 students), the University of Pisa ranks third nationally, following Padua and Bologna. With an overall score of 84.7, Pisa has risen three places since last year—a result welcomed as recognition of the efforts made across the university community.

The University of Florence also climbed the ranks, now in fifth position with a score of 83.5 (up from eighth place). Florence stood out particularly in:

  • 2nd place for student services

  • 3rd place for digital communication and graduate employability

  • 4th place for infrastructure and internationalization

These results reflect the university’s ongoing investments in innovation, digital transformation, and student experience.

Siena Excels Among Medium-Sized Universities

The University of Siena ranked third among medium-sized universities (10,000 to 20,000 students), with a score of 89.7. It advanced two places compared to the previous year, confirming its consistent presence at the top of both regional and national rankings.

Siena achieved:

  • 2nd place in student services, including housing, meal provision, and out-of-region student support

  • 3rd place in infrastructure, based on classroom, library, lab and IT facilities

  • 3rd place in internationalization, thanks to English-taught programs, foreign students, and mobility opportunities abroad
