Irplast, a leading manufacturer of polypropylene films for adhesive tapes and labels based in Empoli (Florence), is entering a new phase of international growth. The company has sold 80% of its capital to the Japanese multinational Toppan, through its Indian subsidiary Toppan Specialty Films, while the remaining 20% stake will remain with the current management, who will continue to lead the company.
With a workforce of 380 employees across its Empoli headquarters and production sites in Atessa (Chieti), Irplast reported a 2023 turnover of €120 million, 75% of which came from exports. The company is currently investing €50 million in a new high-tech production line in Atessa, which will triple its output capacity for high-performance films.
This new partnership with Toppan, a global player in packaging, security, electronics, and sustainable materials, opens the door to important commercial and operational synergies. According to CEO Fausto Cosi, joining the Toppan Group marks a strategic step forward that will allow Irplast to scale its international presence, align with new EU regulations, and actively contribute to reducing CO₂ emissions—perfectly in line with Toppan’s long-term sustainability goals in the packaging sector.
This acquisition highlights Tuscany’s growing role as a hub for advanced manufacturing, sustainable innovation, and globally oriented industrial excellence.
