The University of Pisa and Hitachi Rail Gts Italia have signed a strategic partnership
to promote research, innovation, and training in the transportation sector. This
five-year agreement aims to develop cutting-edge solutions, with a particular focus
on artificial intelligence applied to sustainable mobility.

Thanks to this collaboration, internships, funded PhDs, and joint research projects
will be launched, creating new opportunities for students and researchers. The goal
is to facilitate technology transfer between academia and industry, enhancing
academic talent and accelerating the development of safer, more efficient, and
autonomous transportation systems.
Carlo Piacenza, CEO of Hitachi Rail Gts Italia, emphasized that artificial intelligence
will play a key role in shaping the future of mobility, improving safety and efficiency
with an increasingly green approach. Likewise, Riccardo Zucchi, Rector of the
University of Pisa, highlighted the agreement as part of the university’s broader
strategy to strengthen ties with the region and create new career pathways for
young talents.
This partnership marks a significant step towards an innovative and sustainable
transportation system, reinforcing Tuscany’s position as a center of excellence in
intelligent mobility solutions.
