The University of Florence and McPhy Energy have inaugurated a new facility dedicated to the research and development of technologies for sustainable hydrogen production. The Joint Research Laboratory on Green Hydrogen Production Technologies (H2tech), located in Calenzano, marks a significant step forward in energy transition efforts and collaboration between academia and industry.
The laboratory features a one-of-a-kind testing bench in Italy, designed to analyze and optimize electrolysis techniques. This advanced equipment enables the testing of cutting-edge solutions, improving the performance and safety of McPhy’s electrolyzers, which are already manufactured and tested at its facility in San Miniato, Pisa.
Through its partnership with McPhy, the University of Florence brings its multidisciplinary expertise to the project, combining technical, economic, and policy knowledge to address the challenges of energy transition. Rector Alessandra Petrucci emphasized that this initiative represents the culmination of a long-standing collaboration and a tangible example of successful technology transfer to the industrial sector.
With the H2tech laboratory, Tuscany strengthens its position as a leader in sustainable technologies, reaffirming its role as a global reference point for innovation and sustainability.
