2023 proved to be an exceptional year for Sammontana of Empoli, which reported a turnover of 549 million euros, marking a 13% increase over the previous year. The Bagnoli family’s company, renowned for its “Italian-style” ice creams, also posted an EBITDA of 74.4 million euros, an 89% rise compared to 2022.

Growth and Production Innovation

The ice cream segment saw a significant growth of 52%, followed by pastries (Tre Marie and Il Pasticcere) with 43%, and the lunch and snack sector (Bonchef) with 5%.

To support this growth, Sammontana has initiated an expansion project for its Empoli plant. By 2026, a new 3,700-square-meter facility will be built next to the current headquarters, with an investment of 12 million euros. This new building will increase production capacity by 10% and will include locker rooms, quality offices, chemical and microbiological laboratories, recreation areas, format change equipment spaces, an infirmary, and a parking lot. Additionally, a new production line is planned for the Vinci plant.

International Expansion and Future Prospects

Leonardo Bagnoli, CEO of Sammontana, discussed the acquisition of the Forno d’Asolo Group, aimed at creating an Italian hub with a turnover of one billion euros in frozen pastries, desserts, and ice cream.

Furthermore, Bagnoli announced plans to list Sammontana on the stock market within five years. To prepare for this goal, the company has planned for the entry of the Investindustrial fund as a minority shareholder. This will provide Sammontana with the necessary capital for further investments and acquisitions. Once the listing is complete, the majority of the shares will remain with the Bagnoli family, while the rest will be available on the market.

With these ambitious plans, Sammontana is poised to consolidate its position as a leader in the ice cream and pastry sector, both nationally and internationally.
