ICT: CENTRICA-HITACHI AGREEMENT TO USE DIGITAL IMAGING IN CULTURAL HERITAGE

(ASCA) - Florence, 15 April - Centrica, a Florence-based company, has signed a Memorandum of Intent with Hitachi Ltd for the joint development of digital imaging products and services, in particular for cultural heritage applications.

Under the Memorandum, which follows up the cooperation work started in 2007 with the digitization of Leonardo da Vinci's works, in particular 'the Annunciation', Centrica and Hitachi Ltd. will carry out a new project for the Monuments and Fine Arts Office and the Polo Museale: the digital representation of "the Holy Family" (known as 'Tondo Doni').

From 16 to 18 April, visitors will be able to 'touch' this digital representation. This will be possible thanks to XLimage*, a software developed by Centrica, enabling the extraordinary 400 MegaPixel resolution, 'mosaiced' by Hitachi Ltd., to be viewed.

By using a 42" touch screen, visitors will also be able to interact directly with the image with zoom and pan actions.



*XLimage is a server software for interactive display of very high resolution images in web or local environments.
