Economy

The fair level of economic welfare (per capita GDP being over 28.000 Euros in 2007) is the result of a stable and balanced development, achieved over the years through a successful blend of hard work, creativity, talent and entrepreneurship. The Tuscan economic system draws its strenght from the vitality of small and medium-size companies that constantly change in order to seize new business opportunities, especially in foreign markets.

The economic system is mainly comprised of successful small and medium companies working within the traditional Made in Italy sectors.
A solid manufacturing tradition has led to 12 industrial districts operating in the medium and high segments of the international markets in the following sectors: fashion (textile, clothing, shoes and leather, tannery jewellery), paper, marble, wood and furniture.

A growing number of companies operate in high-tech and R&D- intensive sectors, as for the case of life science cluster of companies in Florence, Siena and Pisa and the ICT corridor in the Arno Valley. Increasing tourist demand (+19% in arrivals from 2003 to 2007) prove Tuscany to be a high yeld market especially for hotel and leisure investments.
