Lucca
The province of Lucca manages 373,820 people in 35 municipalities, 7 of which in Versilia, 7 in the Lucca Valley, 5 in the Middle Valley of the Serchio river and 16 in the Garfagnana area. Together with the adjacent province of Massa Carrara, the province of Lucca lies in the northern part of Tuscany. It is a predominantly mountainous narrow strip of land (not larger than 50 km) wedged between the coast of the Thyrrenian Sea and the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. The area around Lucca has always been characterised by art and culture and its very ancient inland but more modern along the Versilia coastline. The city still has the vestiges of a capital and the historical and artistic remains of the whole province are of great value. The province of Lucca is made up of four areas which are different from each other from a geographical as well as a social and economic point of view. The Lucca Valley is an area characterised by ancient and high development with important manufacturing activities (mainly paper, shoes and mechanics). Versilia is one of the main Italian tourist resorts and it's the destination of internationally famous artists and intellectuals. There are also two highly specialised industrial sectors: stone and yacht building. Most of the floor of the Serchio Valley and the Garfagnana area is highly industrialised and the economy in mountainous areas and in the high hills has improved significantly. www.investinlucca.it |
